Growing up I have had the pleasure to know both of my grandfathers and one great grandfather. I have seen directly how they affect my life even to this day. My parents, grandparents, and great grandparents have been the biggest influencers in my life, and rightfully so. But there is a disconnect that is happening with the generations that are coming up. Many of the kids growing up now do not have a great relationship with their parents, much less their grandparents or great grandparents. That is where we need to step in.

From my great grandfather I learned how to play go fish, build houses from lincoln logs, and how to steal sweet treats when grandmom wasn’t looking. From my grandfathers I have learned so much. I knew what it was to be a man, and especially a man after God’s own heart. From them I learned how to fish, drive, spit (my mom didn’t approve of this one), sail a boat, tie knots, start a fire. From my dad I learned the value of a dollar, what it is like to work hard and how to have a great work ethic, how to raise a godly family, and how to change the oil and tires on a car. From all these men i was given great examples of how to live. Of what is right and wrong. What to do in certain situation. How to treat women. How to be a dad and how to be a present and involved father. But now, this seems to be never happen anymore. There are more absent fathers than ever before. There are kids left to figure it out for themselves, or have technology raise them instead of parents and grandparents.

There is a great need for leaders to positively determine the direction of our future generations to come. There is a generation of boys being raised that don’t know what it is like to be a man. Likewise, there is a generation of girls being raised that don’t know what it means to be a woman. And these generations definitely need to be learn what it means to be godly men and women after His own heart. I have always been under the conclusion that if no one else will do it, and there is no one else around to step up to the plate and accept the challenge, then it means that this responsibility falls to you. Be the example to those around you. If you don’t set a course or direction for those around you, especially the kids you are raising, then someone else will.  So set people up for success, not failure.

That is what this blog is going to be dedicated to. How can we affect and positively determine the direction of our future generations. I don’t have all the answers, but we can tackle this together. If we don’t, then who will?
