“Always learn from my mistakes, hoping to never willfully repeat them.”
This one is harder than ever for me now, as I have a little set of eyes watching every thing that I say and do. My daughter, like all kids is a sponge, soaking up everything that we say and do. I never have and never will say that I’m perfect, so far from it. But often times we forget that sometimes our mistakes effect those closest to us.
Don’t believe me? Look at the stats of divorce rates in the US today. Then think about how many kids are effected by the mistakes of their parents. And don’t think for one second that this mistake will have no effect on everyone involved. We now more than ever need to be men and women after God’s own heart. We have to learn from our mistakes. Sometimes this means giving the same grace and forgiveness that we receive everyday. You got another chance at life today, don’t waste it on the mistakes of yesterday.
But I take this one step further. Not only do we need to learn from our mistakes, we need to also never willfully repeat them. If you ever touched a hot eye on the stove as a kid, I’m sure you never willfully did it again. So why is it that we as teens and adults make the same mistake over and over again? Insanity. Insanity is making the same mistake over and over, whilst expecting different results. Such a simple answer, but so hard to overcome.
Take note of the mistakes that you know that you make over and over. Meet them head on and correct them one at a time. Don’t live a life of insanity, learn from our mistakes and start correcting them today.
