Birthday

There’s something special about birthdays. I’m still young enough to still tell you how old I am without lying, but this is the first year I’ve actually felt older.

Maybe it’s the sleepless nights. Or thinking about another baby girl on the way. Or maybe, I am officially old. But birthdays are a good time to reflect on the years past and think about those yet to come.

Past. I have been nothing but blessed with the family and friends that I’ve had in my life thus far. I’m sure they all have stories about me too, probably about me being up to something. I only hope that my girls are as lucky as I have been with those supporting me in this crazy life.

Yet to come. Where do I see myself in 5, 10 years? Who knows. All I know is that the best is yet to come. I’ve always liked this quote.

Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards.

Be careful not to focus on where you’ve been. It’s not nearly as important as where you are now. Besides, who actually understands life?

Don’t wait for your next birthday to reflect on your past and where you’re going. Do it now. If nothing else, you might accidentally smile. What’s been your favorite birthday memory?

  1. I’d say when I turned twenty five was the most notable. Marks some freedoms for me. But I don’t have the greatest birthday memories. Birthday dances with my father? Those were every year til he passed away. Miss those.
