Wonder

It’s amazing how much our kids can teach us. But you have to be watching. I’ve been thinking a lot about it lately.

In one of my previous post Imagination I talked about how the world through a child’s eyes is on big adventure. Wonder is

a feeling of surprise mingled with admiration, caused by something beautiful, unexpected, unfamiliar, or inexplicable.

Which this can describe every day through a child’s eyes. It perfectly described our Sunday afternoon. I was walking out of the garage to cut the grass and a rainstorm came out of nowhere. So I ran back inside. I saw my daughter continuing to look out the window in wonder.

So, I did something unexpected. Took her outside to play in the rain. It was unexpected. Unfamiliar to her. She had never played in the rain. All she would do is hold her hands out, tilt her head back, and laugh.

When is the last time you have been in awe or wonder of something? When’s the last time you did something unexpected? When it rains, don’t run inside; treat the world as your playground!

  1. Your post reminded me when some time ago I decided to go running in the park with the rain, cause why not? And I remembered I thought “I never run under the rain, isn’t it weird?”. Was nice and fun., and yeah, I agree with you: wonder, this is what we need! Love the posts, by the way! Great Blog!
