Our whole life we compare ourselves to others. And our whole life we’re told not to compare ourselves to others. So how do we do this? It’s time for the rubber to meet the road.
Last night we set out on our trip to the beach. I’ve been told that it’s not called a vacation with two little ones, but a trip. And it was as I was driving down the road that I had an epiphany.
We left later in the evening hoping the girls would sleep the whole trip. This didn’t work out so well. As we were well into the trip my oldest was fighting to go to sleep and I was fighting to stay awake.
Here we are, going down the same road, going to the same destination, but we had two very different goals. One was trying to stay awake and one was trying to sleep.
So the next time you’re tempted to compare where you are in life to those around you, remind yourself that they could have very different goals. And chasing someone else’s goals will always lead you down the wrong road.
